Support for Afghan Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Initiative -(International Rescue Committee))

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) launched a new, nationwide initiative known as Support for Afghan Financial Empowerment (SAFE) to empower Afghan families as they begin their journey to financial stability and economic security in their new homes across the U.S.

The three key components of SAFE are:

  1. Multi-lingual (English, Dari, and Pashto) web portal (www.safeirc.org) that provides access to all SAFE services is available to Afghan families no matter where they resettle in the U.S. and regardless of which resettlement agency provided initial resettlement services
  2. Multi-lingual (English, Dari, Pashto) financial education and coaching services offered through a network of highly-trained SAFE financial coaches that are native Dari and Pashto speakers and can serve clients anywhere in the U.S. through phone, video, text and other communication tools
  3. Auto, education, immigration, and personal loans with no fees and 0% interest to eligible Afghan households evacuated and resettled as a part of Operations Allies Welcome

SAFE is available to Afghan newcomers in California regardless of which resettlement agency provided initial resettlement services, and its program components can be a critical part of a family’s path towards economic self-sufficiency.

SAFE is an initiative led by the IRC’s national Economic Empowerment team and IRC's Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO)
