UCSF Benioff Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing

UCSF Benioff Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing

Our Center serves as an institutional and community hub to support interventions that contribute to equitable healthcare and healthy, resilient children regardless of immigration status. It is among the first of its kind at a children’s hospital in the U.S.

The Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing coordinates with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals and associated clinics to provide support and direct services for the care of children in immigrant families:

  • Clinical consultation services for hospital and community providers regarding services and strategies to improve the health of immigrant children and their families.
  • Model clinics which offer primary care to immigrant, refugee and newcomer children at the International Clinic in Oakland, Castlemont High School Clinic in Oakland, and Bridges Clinic in San Francisco.
  • Civil surgeon services for immigrants seeking immigration visas or permanent resident status in the U.S.
  • Mental health services that address the specific needs of immigrant children and their families who experience trauma, fear, separation from family and isolation.
  • Forensic exams at no cost for local children seeking asylum, and referrals to those children for follow-up medical care as needed.
