Education Support, Mentoring, & Tutoring

The Alameda County Workforce Development Board (ACWDB) is a 27-member employer-led body responsible for overseeing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title I program, outside the city of Oakland. WIOA services are available to meet the training and employment needs of local area job seekers, including youth and young adults. Business services are also available to help employers meet their goals around talent recruitment and business training needs. Our goal is to facilitate the connection of job seekers to quality jobs while remaining responsive and supportive to local area businesses.

Bridging Refugee Youth and Children’s Services (BRYCS) aims to strengthen the capacity of refugee-serving and mainstream organizations across the U.S. to empower and ensure the successful development of refugee children, youth, and their families.

EBAYC builds strategic partnerships with schools, city and county governments, and community organizations, and establishes trusting relationships with families to provide seamless services to support youth. Our diverse menu of services include youth violence prevention, expanded learning, and civic and community engagement.

Education Refuge provides support to refugees through support in education by offering 1-on -1 learning meetings online with our high school student mentors.

Harbor House Ministries provides ESL, food, clothing and housing assistance, youth programs and services, education, employment and job training, and childcare programs.

Beginning/Literacy and Intermediate English lessons for Afghan community members.

The toolkit cited here is designed to help educators to develop a well-rounded understanding of the circumstances of newly arrived Afghan students and their families, including the challenges they may face as they seek to adapt to the American education system. Additionally, it is designed for educators to better understand the Afghan educational systems and possible educational experiences of students and name core considerations for working with Afghan students and their families.

A collaborative of colleges advancing social and economic transformation for students and the community through quality education, rooted in equity, social justice, environmental sustainability, and partnerships.

Provides free education, family engagement, and community leadership programs. Students have sought refuge due to war, violence, persecution, or economic duress.

The Unity Council is a non-profit Social Equity Development Corporation with over 50 years of history in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland. Our mission is to promote social equity and improve quality of life by building vibrant communities where everyone can work, learn, and thrive.

Provides employment assistance and job search skills training for recently arrived immigrant and refugee professionals to the US who have full work authorization.
